MYRRHA is one of SCK•CEN’s major projects for the future. As a new multi-purpose research facility, MYRRHA will pave the way towards transmutation of nuclear waste, production of new medical radio-isotopes, fundamental research in physics and safer nuclear reactors. Specific to MYRRHA is the use of liquid lead-bismuth as primary reactor coolant.

You will build upon our in-house knowledge to develop new technologies in support of the design and licensing of MYRRHA. Supported by an experienced team of researchers and technicians, you will focus on thermal hydraulics and technology of the liquid metal coolant.
You will investigate how the cooling of MYRRHA can be guaranteed using lead-bismuth and how the main components behave in this liquid metal. To do so, you will:
- Interact with designers and safety analysts to define research programs
- Design and commission new experimental facilities to support your research
- Execute experimental campaigns, analyze, verify and report your results
Your research takes place in an international environment: you will work in collaboration with other teams at SCK•CEN, at research institutes and universities and within European and international research programs.
