As Head of the Unit you are responsible for the scientific, service-oriented and administrative direction and management of the Radiochemical Analyses (RCA) group:

  • managing the analysis services and analysis-related developments of the radiochemical analyses group;

  • developing and coordinating the analytical strategies of both chemical and radiochemical analyses according to the needs of the various SCK•CEN projects and institutes, in consultation with the scientific personnel;

  • ensuring the financial management of the unit, including setting analysis rates, taking into account the budget allocated;

  • formulating proposals to improve the quality of the analysis services and to allow them to evolve in line with new developments in state-of-the-art analysis techniques;

  • striving for a higher level of efficiency of the laboratories and analysis periods;

  • maintaining and extending the accreditation of the analysis services in accordance with the SCK•CEN QA system;

  • pursuing an expansion of the customer base and maintaining good relations with customers;

  • acting as a guarantee for the national and international recognition of the unit;

  • editing and reviewing analysis, contract and scientific reports;

  • managing the logistics of the laboratories;

  • managing human resources and HR policy within the unit and coordinating the work performed by personnel;

  • executing various assignments in close collaboration with the HOTLAB manager.

Required qualifications

  • a PhD in Science or Industrial Sciences or equivalent, specialising in chemistry;

  • experience in leading analysis services and projects;

  • knowledge of analytical techniques;

  • knowledge of specificity of analytical techniques in a nuclear environment is an advantage;

  • driven to apply high international standards in chemical analysis;

  • driven to implement state-of-the-art methodologies and techniques for chemical analyses and nuclearised applications;

  • customer-friendly and commercially oriented;

  • analytical and synthetic thinking skills;

  • good communication skills and an ability to conduct international contacts with ease;

  • good people management skills and the ability to motivate when managing personnel;

  • adapted knowledge of Dutch, English and French.
