Job description

As the Radiofrequency (RF) Engineer you will have the following responsibilities within the Accelerator Group:
• act as the owner of the RF System (architecture, design, engineering, prototyping, production, tests, commissioning and maintenance) of the accelerator, mainly composed of superconducting accelerating cavities;
• participate actively in the various RF System design collaborations (Low level, solid state amplifiers, accelerating cavities (superconducting and room temperature) and cryomodules);
• coordinate the prototyping, production and commissioning phases with external and internal participants (commercial and research) for the various RF subsystems such as amplifiers, cavities, cryomodules, low level control, …;
• build relationships with adequate commercial and research partners in the specific particle accelerator RF community;
• evaluate risks and costs linked to the RF systems from design to maintenance;
• lead the continuous improvement process with a high focus on reliability aspects;
• ensure clear reporting, both internal and within the particle accelerator RF community.

This position is based in Louvain-la-Neuve!

Required qualifications

• Master’s degree in engineering sciences (civil or industrial engineering) preferably with a focus on electronics and/or RF engineering;
• professional engineering background (industrial or research) in an R&D environment is an advantage;
• experience in superconducting RF is a major advantage;
• experience in designing and engineering power RF systems is an advantage, in particular accelerator RF technology;
• strong interest in power RF technology and motivated to acquire the particle accelerator related know-how in this domain and become an accelerator RF specialist;
• good communication, coordination and reporting skills and good interpersonal skills;
• able to organize work autonomously;
• given the international environment you have a good working knowledge in written and spoken English; knowledge of French and/or Dutch is an advantage;
• willing to travel (up to 10%). Periods of one to two weeks leave are possible
