Radiological measurements and analyses

The Belgian government operates a monitoring programme that quickly detects even the smallest increase in radioactivity levels in food, air or water. The Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC) is in charge of this programme. The TELERAD early warning system permanently measures radioactivity in the air and in a number of rivers in more than 200 locations. A central alarm system is activated automatically if a specific radioactivity limit is exceeded in any of the locations. FANC frequently asks specialists such as SCK•CEN to execute periodic measurements and analyses.
